Description: This project calls for an assessment of current software and models, with recommendations for needed improvements, simplified interfaces, coordination of inputs, etc. Currently, software requires significant inputs from the user. In some cases, the software uses different models. The MDA track vision calls for integrating mixture design and analysis with structural design and construction control. Reliable, flexible, multi-functional, and reasonably easy-to-use modeling and software—the Lab of the Future—are key to accomplishing the vision. Currently, major software tools include COMPASS, HIPERPAV, PaveSpec, and M-E PDG (defined in Appendix 2). Subroutines of these tools are or will be used in maturity meters, heat signature equipment, coefficient of thermal expansion equipment, and other test equipment. New advanced models are being considered for HIPERPAV to better incorporate variables such as moisture and humidity.
